"Back to school, back to school, to prove to daddy i'm not a fool."

Not motivated AT ALL.  Today I have a quiz over my syllabus in my philosophy class.  How ghey is that?  I don't have but like 2 of the 10 books I have to purchase (3 are in the mail), and I just don't really wanna be there.

Oh well, survival mode enabled.

I don’t really know what it’s like to lose someone close. I mean, everyone goes through breakups and friendships go sour, but I still haven’t ever experienced the pain of losing a member of my immediate family or a close friend to an untimely or unexpected death. So when Gary sits there with a cigarette clutched between two shaking fingers talking about the mother who passed on the very same day, I just don’t know what to say. I guess that given my lack of experience, I did the right thing in saying nothing at all.

First we sat there and played Worms: Armageddon, simply to help take his mind off the events of the day and perhaps push aside the shock that had set in…even if only for a short time. Later after Daniel left, we sat outside and listened as Gary apologized for the last year or so of negligence of friendship on his own part. Not that Toby and I weren’t guilty of the same thing, but it is simple truth that Gary has been guilty a few more times than T and myself. Maybe it was simply gratitude, perhaps shock, could even have been simple brokenness, but I think that last night was the first time Gary ever sat down and admitted his faults as a friend and asked for forgiveness. No ifs, no buts, just simple humility.

I think it was that moment that helped me realize who Gary is under all the layers that I’ve been unable to see through for so many years. I like that person. Most people in this crappy little town haven’t ever seen the person I saw last night, they’ve always seen the surface and as a result persecuted Gary by egging and vandalizing his car, prank-calling him, and not even giving him a chance to show friendship. I think that all along I had it wrong…In my mind I had Gary and his somewhat “powerful” personality at fault and everyone surrounding him as the victims. Now I see that Gary has been beaten down over and over again (I’m not innocent here) and through it all has been willing to forgive, forget, and renew friendship with all who’ve wronged him. What’s sad and unsurprising (given the nature of many of the Siloam residents around our age) is that his overtures of friendship and brotherhood have been rejected repeatedly. But I admire him, because despite this he continues to try. He’s a better man than I am for it.

EDIT:  For those of you who know my friend Gary Maples:  his mom passed away this morning after complications from cancer caused her lung to collapse.  She was a very sweet lady, and always very kind to me and others amongst Gary's friends.  So give Gary a call if you get a chance, because I can't even imagine what it's like to lose your mom.

Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift...a lot better than I thought it would be.  And happy birthday Toby, it was a fun night out with him and Danielle.

I can't sleep...I was tired earlier, but can't seem to go back to sleep.  So I watched the Bourne Supremacy, which makes me want to see a few more places such as India, Russia, more of Germany, etc.

40 hours of work then i'm done with the work week again...work sucks, but it's a necessary evil.

This is a boring post...but i'll put it up anyways...it's about time I put something up.
